Diversity In Hollywood Is Beautiful

It’s not a surprise that Hollywood has had a noticeable problem with diversity and inclusion for a very long time. Decades upon decades have passed by with a lack of diversity In Hollywood. But some of the chosen few African American’s that have been house hold names in Hollywood for a long time, that we would like to mention are Sidney Poitier, Angela Bassett and Denzel Washington just to name a few.

One of the leaders of diversity In Hollywood is Sidney Poitier, one of the most prominent names to have paved the way for all black actors in Hollywood. He has been continually honored for his endeavors throughout his career as an actor, director, and author. Angela Bassett is well known for her role portraying Tina Turner in the emotional classic “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Since then, she’s appeared and starred in countless films representing black culture, such as “Waiting to Exhale” and “Black Panther.” Bassett has also portrayed some of the most iconic women in history, including Rosa Parks, Katherine Jackson, Coretta Scott King, and Betty Shabazz. This short list of heroes, when referring to diversity In Hollywood would not be complete without the incomparable, Denzel Washington. Denzel was the second black man to win a Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in “Training Day” in 2001. He has made his mark in entertainment history and broke barriers with his powerful on-screen portrayals. Some of his most notable films include “Glory,” “Remember the Titans,” “Philadelphia,” “Malcolm X,” “He Got Game,” and “Fences,” which he directed.

Within the recent few decades Hollywood has also seen a rise in Indian and Asian talent as well. Kunal Nayyar portrayed Raj Koothrappali in the CBS sitcom, “The Big Bang Theory” and voiced “Vijay” on the Nickelodeon animated sitcom “Sanjay and Craig”. Nayyar also appeared in the films Ice Age: Continental Drift, The Scribbler, Dr. Cabbie, Consumed, Trolls and Sweetness in the Belly.
Diversity In Hollywood includes one of the most beautiful and talented women, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, an Indian actress, producer, model and singer. The winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant, Chopra is one of the highest-paid actresses. She has received numerous accolades, including two National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards.
One of our personal favourites is Vera Mindy Chokalingam, an Indian-American actress, comedienne, producer, writer and director known for playing Kelly Kapoor from “The Office” and creating “The Mindy Project”. She also acted in “Despicable Me” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”.

We’re going to wrap up this list of Hollywood heavy weights with Canada’s very own, Simu Liu, a Chinese-born Canadian actor, author and stuntman. He is known for portraying Shang-Chi in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Shang-Chi” and “The Legend of the Ten Rings”.
