If you’re an actor looking to build your following and increase engagement you should have a presence on Instagram Reels. Tik Tok is also a good platform to get noticed as an actor.
Instagram Reels allows you to create short, engaging, and entertaining videos for your audience to watch. You can create multi clip videos up to 30 seconds. Reels can be recorded in a series of clips, all at once, or using video uploads from your gallery. Users have the choice of a variety of editing tools within the app, including audio, effects, timer, and speed. Instagram is owned by Facebook, so if you have a public profile you have the option to “Recommend on Facebook”. This feature lets Facebook recommend your Reels on its own platform. Sharing Reels to Facebook makes sense especially for creators as doing so will help them expand the reach of their Reels.
Once you opt for this feature, your Reels can be recommended to anyone on Facebook and will be shown with your Instagram username. What’s noteworthy is that you can either choose to share a specific Reel or all your future Reels on Facebook.
What should you share as an actor?
Tap into your creativity and share your best work to capture the attention of casting directors. Here are a few ideas:
- Show a day in your life. Take your audience behind the scenes by mashing up short clips of your day into a reel. You can even record a voiceover to demonstrate your voice acting skills.
- Demonstrate a special skill. Do you play a sport? Play an instrument? Have wicked skate boarding skills? Show off your special skills in an Instagram Reel or Tik Tok!
- Perform your own sketch. Find your creative groove and perform your own original sketch or re-enact a classic from one of your favourite performers.
Here’s a fun example of a Tik Tok that actor Will Smith created as a Day in the Life clip:
