We thought we would take the time to ask Carolyn, the woman behind the agency, some questions.
If you weren’t leading Carolyn’s Model & Talent Agency what would you be doing?
“I can’t really imagined doing anything else. I love people! The talent we represent are like family to me. When I was young I always wanted to be a nurse as I loved to take care of people. I ended up on a different path though and became a professional photographer. I worked at the Toronto Sun newspaper and photographed Sunshine Boys on weekends and evenings. I did that for about 9 years while running by agency. I truly care about everyone on our roster and love to see them do well. It is a true joy when talent gets booked and I get to see the final edit. I get so excited for them!”
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
“My two dogs, Ollie the Maltie Poo who is 5 years old and Maggie the Boxer is 10 years old, have their routine. They always come in and wake me up around 6:00 am to say good morning. Then I will get up and have coffee with my husband John.”
What’s the best advice that you’ve ever been given?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t worry about thing that are out of your control. Don’t waste energy worrying about today; otherwise you won’t have the time to enjoy your day.”
What is on your bucket list right now?
” I am celebrating 35 years in business running Carolyn’s Model & Talent Agency, Carolyn’s Kids, and Hot Paws Talent Agency. My goal is just to be healthy and live a great life, treat people well and enjoy every day. I have always wanted to go on a cruise to Alaska; however with the current pandemic that might have to be put on the shelf for a while! So in the meantime I will just enjoy my home and appreciate all of life’s greatest gifts.”
Where have you travelled to?
“I have been very fortunate to have seen many places with my job and have travelled all through the United States, parts of Canada, as well as Austria. Austria is beautiful! My grandparents were born there.”
Why did you start the agency?
“I have always wanted to help people achieve their dreams. I love meeting new people and I enjoy seeing them push forward and become successful. It hasn’t been an easy road though. Running a business at the best of times is a challenge. I have done it while going through chemotherapy 28 years ago and a mastectomy on my left breast. I am a four time breast cancer survivor and now going through it for a fifth time. My job is what has kept me going. We can never let adversity get us down. Everyone, at some point in their life, will deal with some kind of adversity. How we choose to handle it is powerful. I am not afraid to let people know what I have have been through in the past and the challenges that I am currently facing. I believe that my story can help other people. I was recently diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer in my right breast and had a mastectomy. I am currently healing from that surgery. Everything is good, and I am staying positive. This cancer story started 28 years ago and I am still here. I plan on living to 100! I am fortunate to have amazing people around me, including wonderful staff who are my rock. I am also blessed with an amazing family. I have two daughters, Kristin and Lindsay, and three beautiful grandchildren aged 17, 12 and 10.
Times are like no other today. The pandemic Covid-19 has created quite the upset in the industry, and with so many people and their way of life. We must always be positive, try to see the good , and know that this too shall pass.”
You are always so inspiring to others. What inspires you?
“Confidence, having a great attitude and a great smile inspires me.”
Do you have any advice for someone starting out in the industry?
“Go for it! Study. Be confident, be grateful, and enjoy every step of the way! Remember to always follow your dreams. Life is the greatest gift. Enjoy the ride!”
